To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the gift of cherry trees to Washington DC, the Government of Japan is giving Portsmouth -- one of just 3 cities in New England -- 20 cherry trees grafted from the original yoshino trees. Three of the trees are going to the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Strawbery Banke Museum and Wentworth By the Sea. The Consul General of Japan in Boston will participate in a tree-planting ceremony at Wentworth at 4 pm. A reception and the JASNH Annual Meeting will follow. Free event but RSVP.
